Medicinal Plant ID + Ethical Foraging Hike
Join us for an interpretive hike led by Kristina Ayars and Erica Holm about the basics of medicinal plant ID and ethical foraging!
Chicken Creek: Meet at nordic ski area trailhead, please arrive 5-10 minutes before the hike is set to begin.
Geology and Mining Effects on Water Quality
Join us on a full day hike led by Kirstin Brown from the Bureau of Reclamation and Scott Roberts from the Mountain Studies Institute to look at their research site in Owens Basin and learn about the effects of historic mining on the watershed!
This will be an intermediate out-and-back hike that involves a river crossing and you must bring your own snacks and lunch.
Local History Hike
Join us for a 5 mile interpretive hike with Dr. Andrew Gulliford and learn about the history of the area. The route will start at Box Canyon, cross the Mancos River, connect with a road and end along the Rim Trail.

Wildfire Ready Watershed Community Meeting
The Mancos Conservation District is in the beginning stages of creating a Wildfire Ready Action Plan for our watershed! Join us to learn about what this plan is, and to provide feedback on community focused goals and objectives for this process.

Watershed Management Hike
Join us for an interpretive hike with Sensa Wolcott and Amorina Lee-Martinez about the management of the Dolores and Mancos watersheds!
Where: McPhee Overlook Trail, meet at the trailhead ~5 minutes before the start of the hike.

Mancos Watershed Stream Management Plan Draft #2 Feedback Session - Towaoc
The Mancos Watershed Group has completed the second draft of the Mancos Watershed Stream Management Plan. Changes and updates will be presented and the floor will be open to public comment and feedback!

The Mancos Conservation District's Annual Meeting of the Landowners will be held on Saturday, April 5th, 2025 from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. at the Mancos Community Center, 130 Grand Avenue, Mancos. Light breakfast will be served beginning at 9:30.
Presentations will be made by High Country Conservation Advocates about mining issues as well as the Department of Agriculture speaking about living with wolves.
We will also introduce the District’s staff and Board Members, recognize volunteers, display photo contest submissions, and will announce the MCD’s annual photo contest winners. Breakfast will be provided.
Please come and share your ideas, concerns and conservation needs for our area.

MWSMP 2nd Draft Feedback Session
The Mancos Conservation District and Mancos Watershed group are excited to share the second draft of the Mancos Watershed Stream Management Plan. This revised draft incorporates the feedback received during the past 6 months into the extensive stakeholder input gathered since the MWSMP process began in 2020.
Our comment period is open through January 2025. We will be collecting feedback through a variety of means:

Mancos Watershed Tour
Join the Mancos Conservation District and partners for an all-day adventure through the Mancos Watershed! This tour is a great opportunity to see the entire watershed in one day and listen to the different management practices occurring throughout the watershed.
The tour will take place on Friday, September 27th from 8 am-6 pm (it is worth the long day!) During the tour, you will be taken to the Upper Watershed to learn about management on US Forest Service land at the Transfer Overlook, hear about irrigation infrastructure basics and water management in the Middle Watershed, and spend the afternoon on the Ute Mountain Ute Tribal Lands hearing from their staff on restoration and management efforts.
Registration is $25; this includes lunch, snacks, a private Tribal Park tour, and endless information!
